Your Vision, Our Priority

Expert Eye Care with a Personal Touch In Mercery Countys

Cataract Surgery

Cataracts are a natural part of aging that occur when the clear lens inside your eye becomes cloudy, leading to blurry vision, glare, and difficulty with everyday activities like reading or driving. If you're over 50, chances are you're already developing cataracts, even if you haven’t noticed changes in vision yet. When glasses can no longer correct your vision effectively, cataract surgery is required The procedure is quick, safe, and performed on an outpatient basis. Patient satisfaction for this procedure is extremely high and many patients can't believe how clear they see. Cataract surgery involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with a clear artificial one, this lens is called an Intraocular Lens or IOL. The new lens significantly improves vision and often enhances quality of life. Because the lens is designed to last a lifetime, choosing the right lens is important, and Dr. Cox takes the time to ensure that each patient is fully empowered to make the best decision for their needs.

During cataract surgery, Dr. Cox will replace the clouded natural lens with an intraocular lens (IOL). There are several types of IOLs available, and choosing the right one can impact how well you see afterward and how dependent you'll be on glasses. Basic fixed-focus lenses, known as standard lenses or monofocal lenses offer excellent correction for one distance, often for distance vision, but most people still need glasses for reading or computer work. For those with astigmatism, there are toric lenses that can correct it at the time of surgery.
Many patients take the opportunity to correct their presbyopia with multifocal lenses, so that they can ditch those pesky reading glasses. These lenses, sometimes called lifestyle lenses are premium lens implants that are designed to provide a broader range of focus, helping many patients see clearly at near, intermediate, and far distances with little or no need for glasses.
The choice of IOL should be guided by your lifestyle, visual goals, health history, and the detailed measurements your surgeon takes during your pre-surgical evaluation.

Choosing the best intraocular lens (IOL) for your cataract surgery depends on your unique vision needs, eye health, and lifestyle. There’s no one-size-fits-all option, which is why we guide patients through personalized recommendations based on specific conditions and goals. If you're living with keratoconus, managing chronic dry eye, or hoping for the clearest possible vision, certain lenses may be more suitable than others. We also consider conditions like glaucoma, high astigmatism, high myopia, or macular degeneration when recommending lens types. If you have mild astigmatism, struggle with night driving, or have had LASIK in the past, those factors will also influence the best fit. For many patients, comfort is a top concern—and yes, some IOLs are considered more comfortable than others based on how your eyes adapt. To explore all these options and understand how they apply to you, visit our detailed guide to choosing an IOL.

Glaucoma Care

Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve, often due to elevated intraocular pressure. It can progress slowly without obvious symptoms, making regular screenings essential. Early detection and management can help preserve vision and slow disease progression. Learn more about glaucoma and its risk factors here.

We offer a full spectrum of glaucoma treatments tailored to each patient’s needs, including laser procedures like laser iridotomy and selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT), as well as surgical interventions such as minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS). We treat both narrow-angle and open-angle glaucoma, and use advanced imaging such as the OCT, to guide personalized care.

Cornea & Laser Vision Correction

Tired of the daily hassle and inconvenience of glasses or contacts? Our LASIK surgeon, Dr. Cox, is fellowship-trained in refractive surgery at the prestigious Anheuser-Busch Eye Institute. Choosing a fellowship-trained LASIK surgeon ensures the expertise and precision necessary to maximize safety, comfort, and visual results.
The LASIK procedure itself takes under 15 minutes, with the laser active for only a few seconds. Most patients experience minimal discomfort, enjoy rapid visual recovery, and can return to normal activities the same day. After LASIK, you’ll rely on corrective lenses far less often, and many achieve true freedom from glasses.
If you have thinner corneas or specific lifestyle needs, Dr. Cox may recommend PRK (Photo-Refractive Keratectomy), another proven, safe alternative to break free from glasses and contacts. Whichever path you choose, our priority is your comfort, confidence, and long-term vision health.

Your eye’s outermost layer, the cornea, is vital to clear vision, and when it’s compromised by conditions like keratoconus, high astigmatism, Fuchs’ dystrophy, persistent ulcers, or other corneal diseases, you may experience blurred vision, light sensitivity, discomfort, or frequent infections. Left untreated, these issues can significantly impact your quality of life.
With dual fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery, Dr. Cox is a sought after expert in complex eye surgeries. Dr. Cox isn’t just highly trained, he’s someone who’s spent years mastering the fine details of advanced cornea care. That means your eyes get the kind of care that’s careful, advanced, and genuinely focused on your best outcome.
Dr. Cox provides tailored corneal treatments to address a wide range of conditions and restore and protect your vision:

Patients and referring doctors throughout Mercer County, including Trenton, Lawrence, Robbinsville, and beyond, choose Dr. Gregory Cox for his rare blend of advanced corneal expertise, cutting-edge technology, and a personal commitment to every patient’s care.

Patients often ask: Can glaucoma cause headaches? and Can my medication raise eye pressure? We also address dry eye in glaucoma patients, explain symptoms and stages, offer support for living with glaucoma, and discuss lifestyle topics such as marijuana and glaucoma and what it means to be a glaucoma suspect.

Comprehensive Eye Exams & Contact Lens Fittings

Whether it’s time for your regular eye exam or you need a closer look at an issue that’s been bothering you, we’re ready, with the highest level of care, and a genuine smile to go with it.
Eye health becomes even more important as the years go by.  That’s why regular comprehensive eye exams are essential, especially as we age. Routine exams can help us spot early signs and prevent irreversible damage from conditions like glaucoma or macular degeneration, and they’re just as crucial for keeping tabs on diabetes, high blood pressure, or even those little floaters that suddenly show up uninvited.
And when it comes to kids? A child’s ability to learn and grow in school relies on great vision. Getting their eyes checked before school starts? That’s a small step that can lead to big success.

Whether you’re overdue for an updated contact lens prescription or simply not getting the clarity and comfort you deserve, We use the latest technologies and modalities and take a patient-centered approach to make sure you achieve both outstanding vision and all-day comfort.
We’ll walk you through comparing lens materials, discuss the benefits of daily disposable vs. monthly lenses, and review specialized multifocal designs so you can ditch your readers. You’ll also learn proper lens care techniques, safe wear schedules, and solutions for dryness, everything you need to find the ideal contact lens for your eyes and lifestyle.

Medical & Emergency Eye Care

Need urgent eye care in Hamilton Township? Our fellowship-trained ophthalmologist offers same-day appointments and uses the latest diagnostic and treatment technology to handle everything from chemical burns and corneal abrasions (scratches) to sudden vision changes, infections, and eye injuries. Patients trust us for compassionate, expert emergency care, traveling from across Mercer County, including Trenton, Lawrence, Robbinsville, and the surrounding communities for emergency eye care when every minute counts.

Dry eye often isn’t just a matter of “not enough tears”, it usually reflects deeper imbalances in your ocular surface and lifestyle. From blockages of the meibomian glands that deprive your tear film of essential oils, to chronic inflammation, environmental factors like dry air or prolonged screen time, systemic conditions, age related changes, or autoimmune disorders, and even certain medications, the true culprits can vary widely from person to person. That’s why simply using eye drops without uncovering the underlying cause often leads to only temporary relief. By taking the time to pinpoint what’s disrupting your tear production, retention, or natural balance,  whether it’s gland dysfunction, inflammation, or external triggers, we can target the problem at its source. Addressing those root causes is the only way to achieve lasting comfort, clear vision, and long-term protection of your eyes.

Proactive management of ocular disease means more than just appointments on a calendar, it’s about a caring partnership with the patient and eye doctor, focused on preserving the gift of sight you rely on every day. Whether you’re keeping an eye on age-related macular degeneration, managing diabetes, monitoring glaucoma, or preventing hypertension-related changes, our team uses the latest imaging and diagnostic tools, such as OCT scans, visual field tests, and high definition imaging, to catch the smallest changes before they ever reach your awareness. With regular, personalized exams and a doctor who truly listens to your concerns, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that any progression is detected early, when interventions and simple lifestyle tweaks can make all the difference.
We believe that empowering you with knowledge and support is at the heart of lasting eye health. You’re never alone on this journey, our caring ophthalmology team is here to guide you with compassion, expertise, and genuine commitment every step of the way.
